Letters to Astraea is a collection of poems born out of the blue in some of the last inspirational midsummer nights. Throughout the book, numerous allusions are made to Roman and Greek mythologies. However, Astraea’s spirit has been the poet’s ultimate Muse as it stands for “Innocence” where the themes of love and virtue are interwoven. According to Greek mythology, Astraea is the Goddess of innocence who fled the misery, brutality and wickedness of humanity. Astraea abandoned the Earth and took the firmament as a sanctuary. She is also said to be returning to Earth one day, bringing to the suffering humanity a Utopian age. Yet, the poet, through his verse, tries to bring her inspiration back to his world that is far from being platonic or Utopian.
